When we establish and communicate routine, efficient ways of doing tasks, it makes things easier for staff and volunteers, helps ensure animal health and provides consistency for the public.
A great example is to have a uniform way to set up a clean, disinfected animal habitat, cage or run.
Set the stage in a clean cat cage complete with a litter box and fresh litter, soft bedding and a paper bag or other hiding place.
In the center of the cage, place empty water and food bowls you’ve turned upside down, as shown in the above photo. This sends a clear message that this room is ready for occupancy—and distinguishes the area from an empty cage where the animal who left was, well, just a neat freak!
What’s one routine task at your agency that makes things easier for staff and volunteers and ensures animal health?
